The theater artists do not consider the dialogues of the play as words which must be articulated by actors, but as actions which must be performed by them. The dramatic action makes invariable change in the situaation of characters and in fact is simply «subtext» and should not be confused with motivation. Such a concept may have a close relation with the speech act theory as developed in the views of J. L. Austin and John Searle. The reflection of Austin and Searle views in theoretical and practical principles of drama and fiction has been widely developed: theoreticians and practitioners have rejected the inappropriaate division of «fiction» and «reality.» In the second half of the present article, the writer has attempted to follow the examples of above discusssions and through a comparative study has found that the scene of Iranian modern dramatic literature has been turned to the monologic action realm of the writer and the characters have been unable to reach their ultimate action in text. Drawing on the terminology of Benveniste, it can be held that the action of text and playwright in Iranian present dramatic literature is rather at the level of énonciation than the énoncé. If an interaction exists, it is between the writer and the audience and the trilateral interaction of playwright-textaudience is less observable. Finally, the writer considers the structuralist but immature study of William Beeman on interactive structure of Iranian’s language.

The study of the methods of criticism aims to understand criticism and learn appropriate critical reading. But in architectural texts, there is no general consensus on how to categorize these methods. So we must ask what the appropriate criterion for categorizing the works is. Looking scrupulously, we understand that various methods of criticism have been categorized according to the primary tastes some of which are based on mood, some others on subject, while the others are based on the aim of criticism but none can be regarded as the main criteria. What essentially makes the various types of criticism different is not mood, aim or subject of criticism, but the position of critic or the point of departure for criticism. The departure point is the subject or wisdom which is the base of criticism. Therefore, the methods of criticism are derived from positions. Nevertheless in recent times, a unique truth is noticeable in various types of criticism or positions which is the result of their non-artistic nature. Therefore, in current times the different types of criticism are in fact just one criticism with various embodimments. In modern criticism, the mere research on the work underlies the criticism, as the work of criticism is limited to the observation of events related to the work. In such criticism, everything becomes popular on the condition that it can be related to anything except the work itself. Meanwhile the truth of the art work will still remain concealed.

The sociology of artworks initially aims to analyze the artwork for exploring the evident and concealed meanings, and then relates these meanings to the structure of the society within which the artwork has been created. In such an approach, the recognition of artwork meaning may contribute to the recognition of prevailing contents in the society (in various levels, macro, middle and micro). In this approach, artwork criticism and analysis play a pivotal role. Generally, there are two major ways for criticism and evaluation of artworks; internal and external criticism. Since the internal criticism draws on technical and aesthetic principles of artwork than the surrounding and environmental factors, this article mainly focuses on the method of external criticism. As a matter of fact, this type of criticism observes the relation between the society and the arts and in other words is a sociologiccal criticism. The contribution of external criticism to the sociology of arts is in showing that artwork can be taken as a set of information which can be accessed through decoding and understanding its language. Consequently, the characteristics of the contemporary society are available through such a process. Meanwhile, content is not the mere focus of attention, but the issue of style is also significant and can artticulate many sociological effects on art. Although finding the relation between the style of artworks and social circumstances is more difficult than finding their relation between the content of works and social circumstances, but the relation cannot be denied. Employing the results of some researches, the present artticle acknowledges the existence of reflective relation of society and art and attempts to describe the actual reasons for this relationship.

It is a longstanding tradition in sociology to study the phenomenon of “consumers of culture.” Respondiing to the question of who are the “consumers of culture,” appears to be relatively uncomplicated: they are the customary arts audience in general and artists, students, faculties and critics of arts in particular. These audiences are involved in art as a result of their career, discipline and/or because of their family background and environmental circumstances. The subject of this paper, however, is not the sociology of artisans and the audiences for arts; rather it is the sociology of the artless mass and the non-audiences: those who are unfamiliar with the world of fine arts (painting, progressive theater and sculpture). Some sociologists call these non-audiences “culturaally ignored people”, marginalized from cultural structures, and in Pierre Bourdieu’s words “culturally eliminated.” Others, by criticizing the latter standpoint which considers the culture of elites as its point of departure, defend the specific culture of mass people and argue that non-audiences of arts are indeed the non-audiences of culture of elites and fine arts but audiences of pop arts. Moving beyond these two appproaches, which have been called populism and legitimism respectively, is one of the major challenges of the sociology of art. This paper, by referring to the theoretical foundations of the Sociology of the Artless Mass and applying it to the context of Iran, investigates the three following assumptions: 1. Arts in Iran belongs to the cultural heirs. 2. The weakest chain in the threefold sequence of producing, distributing and consuming arts is the distributing one. This weakness has caused a gap between producers (artists) and consumers (people) of arts. 3. In Iran, we deal not with the public of arts but rather with the non-public.

Through observing the situation of music, as well as ideas and positions of Iranian musicians, this article attempts to illustrate the mainstream Iranian musical discourses. The significance of considering the musical discourses lies in the fact that seemingly the respect for various discourses and their multi-communicative symbiosis enables the development and elevation of traditional Iranian music.

The subject of the present essay goes back to an anthropological and sociological question about the proccess of poetic creation with regard to social mechanisms. To answer this question, the authors initially refer to Lucien Goldman’s model of study in «Hidden God.» In this text, the similar relations of God, human beings and the universe as tripled elements of society’s structure have been portrayed. After these theoretical introductions, the essay focuses on the development of poetic structure with regard to the structure of society. Then based on the mentioned tripled elements, the mechanical structure of tradditional poetry is associated with the mechanical structure of pre-modern society. Thus, the objective and subjective embodiments of homological relations between God Almighty and human beings in heavenly world is set as an agenda. The essay comes to an end by presenting the overlapping of social structure as the objective aspect with poetic structure as the subjective aspect.
