Domestic violence among the people is dangerous and serious as much as the crimes such as a surprise attack in the street. However the public is of the viewthat reputation is a family affair and therefore it should be neglected. The present research descriptively analyzes the current viewpoints in the field of violence against women and elaborates on the relation between self-restraint and extent of satisfaction with conjugal life in the victimized and non-victimized women. To this end a statistical sample was chosen comprising 50 women who had referred to the forensic medicine division of the south due to familial victimization or other reasons during the first quarter of the calendar year 1386 (21 March – 20 June 2007), and by using the Rosenberg Self-restraint Questionnaire the relation between the selfrestraint and extent of satisfaction with conjugal life in the victimized and non-victimized women was studied. Other variables assessed in this research were a comparison of the level of education, number of children and the economic situation of the victimized and non-victimized women based on the statistical tests. The results of the research revealed that satisfaction with conjugal life among the victimized women is meaningfully low. There is also a meaningful relation between the selfrestraint and the extent of satisfaction of these women with their conjugal life; that is, the level of self-restraint and satisfaction of conjugal life in low among these women.
