Spiritual leadership with Islamic approach

Recently the idiom “spirituality in organization” has changed into a worthwhile subject in management literature and organizational behavior and many researchers have worked on it due to the effect of spirituality on the organization’s exploitation. What is currently known as leadership has allocated to itself a specific place over its political application in governmental, commercial, industrial and above all scientific management. Regarding management, leadership is an inseparable part of management; since if we accept that the mission of an Islamic manager is according to elevation and production, the elevation of the human will be no way possible other than enjoying the leadership qualities; in other words, the production increase as well as quantitative and qualitative evolution is not possible except with the existence of a leader. The spiritual leadership includes serving the leader, giving cooperation to the staff and making them capable; and it is founded on the serving leadership philosophy, the type of leadership which emphasizes on giving services to others, a general view toward the work, personal development and shared decision making. In Islamic management, too, it is accentuated that not only the leader should have the insight regarding management and proficiency in handling the affairs, but also he/she should be able to meet the human’s spiritual needs especially in his/her organization. Therefore in the present study an addition to investigating the concept of spirituality, spirituality in work, the relationship between religion and spirituality, spiritual management and its aspects, some definitions of Islamic management and the standpoint of Islam regarding these concepts have been worked on. The research method was descriptive wherein the library sources, a review on related articles and internet sources have been applied.
