Comparison of Chromosome Instabilities (Chromosome Breakage and Aneusomy) Between Patients with Early- Onset Alzheimer Disease, Parkinson Disease and Normal Controls using Micronucleus Assay

Message:
Abstract:
Alzheimer Disease (AD) and Parkinson Disease (PD) are the most common forms of neurodegenerative disorders worldwide. Previous studies have shown that neurodegenerative diseases are associated with an increase in the level of chromosome damage which can lead to chromosome instability (genomic instability). In this study، we investigated the presence of cytogenetic alterations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with early-onset AD and PD. Detection of spontaneous structural and/or numerical chromosome damage was assessed by Micronucleus (MN) Assay. The cytogenetic investigation was performed on 18 AD patients، 20 PD patients، and 20 controls. Results indicated that spontaneous frequencies of micronuclei (MN) in human lymphocytes of both AD and PD patients were significantly higher than normal controls.
