Extradition and Analysis of Related Agreements between Iran and Neighboring Countries

Extradition of suspects or convicts to demanding country is the most important goal a government pursues. When the demanded person is extradited to the demanding government, that country is practically lacking the absolute power and liberty to prosecute and punish that suspect/convict. In fact, the powers of that government are limited in some aspects and according to the special conditions set for legal prosecution of the offenses committed by extradited persons, the demanding government has to take action according to accepted terms and conditions. The most important benefit of extradition is that it provides a chance for legal punishment of escaping offenders. The very existence of extradition regulations, particularly mutual extradition agreements and conventions, deprives the offenders from the chance and hope of escaping justice by taking refuge in other countries. Extradition is in fact a measure of stabilizing and supporting penal and legal laws of countries that provides better social safety and helps defend the rights of the community. In that sense, extradition contributes very much to crime prevention. Therefore, governments must take action towards extradition of offenders and criminals from countries which are safe for them, and must reinforce such regulations so much that it looks like detaining a suspect on national territory.
