The representation of religious identity of active Iranian users in social network " google plus"

Abstract:
In the postmodern era, the social networks are counted as one of the identification tools. The virtual space as general and the social networks specially, are public domins which people in them by understanding and reasoning, show a series of their knowledge, values and religious feelings. The recognition about how active Iranian users represent religious identity in social network, forms the main purpose of this article. This research tries to use an integrated approach which covers Giddens theory of building navigation, Tajfel and Turner theory of identity theory and Peter Berger theory about the religious identity and its typology in virtual space in order to determine Iranian users who are constantly on the social network, Google plus, what elements of religious identity in their user pages, they represent? These components belong to which kind of religious identity (traditional or reflexive)? In the present study, the meaning of religious identity is “the definition of oneself of itself, according to belonging to a particular religion, with the valuable and emotional considerations related to it” and two kinds of identity, “traditional identity” and “reflexive identity”, have been separated to be analyzed by using qualitative content analysis, the content of Iranian users posts which daily they share with other members more than 3 posts and more than 1000 users follow them. The results of research indicate that active users of social network “google plus” have reflexive identity and less in their post represent their religious identity and more emphasize on the emotional and valuable aspect of their identity.
