Investigating the Barriers to Faculty Training and Development in the State Universities of Tehran (a Qualitative Study)

Message:
Abstract:
In this study, barriers to faculty training and development were explored. For this purpose, 19 policy makers in the field of higher education, university administrators, and experts in faculty education and development in the area of research were interviewed and the data were extracted from the interviews. To analyze the data from interviews, the Grandhim & Lundman’s qualitative method has been used. The results of three stages of data analysis including open coding, axial, and selective were presented in terms of two overall areas: Outer University barriers (lack of independence in the University, overruling of political views, lack of policies and general guidelines in the area of faculty training and development and a quantitative outlook towards the University and faculty development), inner University barriers including the physical and financial barriers, institutional barriers, administrative barriers, and barriers to faculty members. These barriers are presented in the formats of individual and organizational consequences.
