An analysis of the position of environment in the light of the Quran

Paying less or no attention to the spiritual aspects of human relationship with the environment is the root cause of many pollutions and environmental disasters. The human direct and indirect destructive activities have led to the environmental major crises. However, there are scientific solutions and pragmatic programs to control or curb the human destructive activities in respect with the environment, but still, we observe environmental damages around the world. The paper at hand tries to elaborate on the relationship of human and environment. According to him, the Islamic perspective, based on the Quran, subscribes to the human’s healthy and friendly relationship with the environment whereas, from a non-religious perspective, one should dominate and exploit the environment as much as possible. Analyzing the Quranic verses, he concludes that if philosophical thoughts are put forth in a non-religious atmosphere and a part from religious guidelines, they can be the root cause of the destruction of the environment. This dilemma arose from the modern man’s worldview and his view of himself and the nature. The view that traces back to the roots of modern science and thought; where human is devoid of a spiritual perspective. Unless the spiritual relationship is not set or reformed with the nature and environment, one can never expect an essential and enduring solution to environmental issues.
