Relationship between Social Control and Driving Violation of Drivers

Abstract:
Driving violation is one of the most causes of social problems throughout the world, leading to waste of energy and time, environmental pollution, psychological distress, accidents, fatalities, and financial lost. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between social control and driving violation among drivers in Shiraz. The methodology used in the paper was to survey regarding the fields of interest. The study sample included those drivers aged between20 and 64. Accordingly, the statistical sample consisted of 440 individuals was selected based on a multi-stage sampling method. The findings indicated that driving violation among the drivers in Shiraz was at high level. The analytical research outcomes suggest that there was a significant relationship between social control and driving violation in which social control was able to explain 0.12 of the variance of the driving violation. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between gender and driving over 24 hours with driving violation. However, there was no significant relationship between age, marital status, license duration, vehicle type, driver’s education and ethnicity with driving violation. This research concluded that social control could alleviate driving violation as one of the country's social problems.
