Avicenna and Mulla Sadra on Perceiving Universals and Particulars (A Critical Study)

Perception is one significant chapter of philosophy unfortunately less dealt with, despite its importance. In what follows, the author has studied Avicenna and Mulla Sadra"s views on perceiving universals and particulars. Thus and first, we have defined perception and its phases in Avicenna's view. He holds that perception is material in nature and passes through a process of four phases. In his interpretation of perceiving universals, Avicenna proposes the theory of abstraction. Then we came to Mulla Sadra who considers perception as something of existence in nature which passes through a process of three phases. In his explanation of universals, Mulla Sadra proposes the theory of transcendence.
