Stochastic security constraint unit commitment in the present of wind farm and pumped storage units considering commitment strategy of thermal unit for energy providing of water pumping

Abstract:
Currently there is an increasing concern about the emission impact of thermal power plants in the world. Therefore, renewable energy resources become one of the important portions of the energy generation in many countries. Wind energy has the fastest growing rate over the other renewable energy resources. Wind power generation uncertainty creates big challenges in power systems. To overcome these challenges, pumped storage units beside the wind unit are used. This paper presents a new security unit commitment approach of thermal units in the presence of wind and pumped storage units considering the status of thermal units for energy providing of water pumping. The proposed model is a mixed-integer linear programming. 6 bus standard IEEE test system is employed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Simulation results show that if thermal units are participated for energy providing of water pumping, the operation cost and emissions are reduced.
