Abstract:
Meta-ethics deals with the conceptual and affirmative principles of morality. One of the issues in meta-ethics is logical discussion which deals with the deduction of moral concepts and propositions, therefor the relationship between moral “is” and “ought” from the perspective of Mohaghegh Isfahani can be considered a metalogical issue that has not received due attention. The present article is an attempt to delineate Mohaghegh Isfahani’s views on the realtionship between moral statements. Mohaghegh Isfahani tries to prove the logicality of moral statements. He considers the relationship between moral “ought to” and “is” not a deductive one but one which shows semantic overlap. He agrees that the relationship between immoral good and moral “ought to” is deductive. He calls this type of relationship “debate”. He believes in the certainty of moral statements. It seems that his blind eye on provocation, as an integral part of the meaning of “Ought to”, is problematic.
