Evaluating the Engineering Faculty Member's Competencies to fulfill the academic mission of 1404's Vision: The perspective of Doctoral Students on the Teaching Competency Position

This study was an attempt to examine the expected competencies of faculty members for the next decade from the viewpoints of PhD students in engineering disciplines. The study’s population consisted of doctoral students of Shiraz University in engineering disciplines. 66 participants were selected randomly according to their genders and fields of study. The research instrument was faculty competencies questionnaire made by the researcher. The research results showed that the most important issue in relation to the faculties teaching, research and instruction activities was abundance of available information and use of new technologies. The most important competency of faculty members in the 1404 vision would be research competency, however, this study revealed the significant gaps between the current and the desired situation in competencies of teaching, research, counseling services and faculty collaboration with colleagues. The result showed that the greatest gap between the current and the desired qualifications of faculty members was related to competency of faculty collaboration with colleagues.
