Abstract:
As for the question how far lexical innovation in the poetry of Akhavān Sālis generalizes the language rules and how far violates them, it is indicated that lexical innovation has occurred in most cases (71.5%) by generalizing the language rules and in 28.5% of cases by violating them. As for which morphological processes are involved in each of the generalization and violation of the language rules, it is shown that compounding is the most frequent process (53%) in generalization of the rules and derivation is the most frequent process (48%) in violation of the rules. Finally, as for what type of restrictions have been ignored by the poet, it is shown that the syntactic restrictions (75.5%) are most frequently ignored. The purpose of this review is to answer the questions above, to indicate potentialities of the Persian language in word formation, and to help find appropriate Persian equivalents to foreign words in literary translation. Studying lexical deviation also helps determine the stylistic characteristics of the poetry of Akhavān Sālis.
