Optimal Selection of Small Fields in Low-Volume Passageways Based on Traffic Analysis of Capacity

Abstract:
Many rural communities have developed around highways or connecting villages; as a result, inland rural roads are often part of the main routes between high-speed rural areas; therefore, the speed at this type of road should be controlled and reduced. Fields with low radius (small field) are commonly known as traffic flow relaxation solutions, which should be considered at low-traffic inlets at rural intersections. The main objective of this study is to recognize this type of intersection with rural authorities and police forces in order to create order and promote safety for policy-making. In this research, based on library studies and the achievements of research and scientific resources, it has been tried to identify suitable patterns for intersections in low volume and, most appropriately, to be considered as small fields, to be used in case design. This study is a case study of the technical characteristics of a rural intersection design and evaluates the most appropriate method at the intersection, namely, the design and implementation of a small field in a case study. For analyzing the data, as well as estimating the field capacity and prioritizing the important factors influencing the field capacity of the artificial neural network were used. The results of this study show that in low traffic volumes, such as rural pedestrians, precise and comprehensive studies have not been conducted in the field of geometric design, and most of the regulations have been developed to address the safety and movement issues of traffic jams.
