The Effect of Anger Management Training (Parent-Child) Based on Religious Teachings on Maladjustment Behaviors (emotional, social and academic) of Secondary School Students
Anger is one of the unpredictable impulses and behaviors that have a negative effect on social, academic, professional, and family functioning. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of anger management training (parent-child) based on religious teachings on maladjustment behaviors (emotional, social and academic) of secondary school students in Ahvaz city. The research method was semi experimental with pre–test, follow up and control group. At first, 630 students were selected from all three secondary school students in the Ahvaz district using random cluster sampling. Then, 46 students who had a standard deviation higher than the mean in SDQ questionnaire completed by their parents and according to the adjustment questionnaire for student which they self-administered and received clinical diagnoses of maladaptive and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. The subjects were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group, were administered the parent-child anger management program with religious teachings to 10 sessions per week, while the control group received no intervention. Analysis of covariance showed that there was a significant difference between aggression and the maladjustment behaviors between experimental and control group (p <0.0001). The rate of maladjustment behaviors, inconsistency and aggression in the students of the experimental group was significantly lower than the pre-test and the control group. These results significantly persisted after fallow- up period. The implementation of anger management training program based on religious teachings in schools has led to a reduction in the incidence of maladjustment behaviors in students.
