Comparison of mental health status of humanities students in Tehran and Kashan universities and social parameters affecting them (a study from the perspective of sociology of mental illness)

Considering the vulnerability of health and in particular mental health to the structural components of society as well as the theoretical adequacy of the theories of structuralist theorists such as Merton in the field of sociology of mental disorders, the theoretical framework used in this study was Mertoni. Hence, the hypotheses tested also derive from this framework.The purpose of this study was to compare the mental status of humanities students in Tehran and Kashan and the social parameters affecting them. The statistical population of the study consisted of humanities students in Tehran and Kashan. The whole statistical population was the University of Tehran and the University of Kashan. There were 300 members in each section of the statistical population. For the future hope variable, Snyder et al.'s questionnaire, for the health literacy variable, Montazeri et al.'s health literacy questionnaire, for the social support variable, the standard wax and colleagues questionnaire, and for the spiritual intelligence variable, the King standard questionnaire were used. The variables of self-care, social commitment and social participation were measured by researchermade questions and formal validity was used to confirm them; The Goldberg General Health Questionnaire was also used to assess mental health. Pearson correlation coefficients and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used to analyze the data; The results of data analysis showed that all social parameters (selfcare, hope for the future, health literacy, social commitment, social support, social class, social participation and spiritual intelligence) affect the mental state of humanities students in Tehran and Kashan.
