Designing a Competency Model for Managers in the Field of Professional Sports Based on the Islamic-Iranian Model of Progress

Abstract:
Objectives

The aim of the present study is the development of a competency model for managers in the field of professional sports based on the Islamic-Iranian model.

Method

The present research has been applied qualitatively and quantitatively. The statistical population of this study was the managers of the Ministry of Sports, managers of federations and university professors and activists in sports from all over the country. Sampling in this study was done by snowball sampling in a targeted and non-random manner. The statistical sample of this research consists of 22 expert professors (4 women and 18 men). These people have worked in the field of research and executive activities.

Results

From the primary raw data, 1303 key points were extracted in the form of 320 abstract concepts, while open coding, and the mentioned concepts were categorized in the form of 24 sub-categories and five main categories. In the next stage, there are categories including causal conditions (causes of the main phenomenon), strategies (strategic context and scope), background conditions (specific context-forming conditions affecting strategies), intervening conditions (general context-forming conditions in strategies) and consequences (implementation and context). (closing strategies) were theoretically linked. Finally, during the process of selective coding, ruling propositions or issues of the research that refer to the internal relationships of the categories were formed.

Conclusion

The research showed that the characteristics and competencies of managers based on the Islamic-Iranian model of progress due to compatibility with the environment and Iranian sports organizations are more compatible with the internal environment of Iran and can play a key role in the success of organizations.
