Predicting Career Adaptability and Career Plateauing based on Subjective Underemployment and Psychological Capital in Health-Related Personnel

Abstract:
Introduction

Medical personnel are faced with many problems, including professional commitment, personal safety, and other psychological disorders that complicate their working conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to predict career adaptability and career plateauing based on subjective unemployment and psychological capital in health personnel. 

Methods

This study is a correlational and applied study. The statistical population included all hospitals in Tehran several hospitals were selected based on available sampling method and after coordination with hospitals, research questionnaires were distributed among health personnel and data were analyzed at descriptive and inferential levels by SPSS 26 using Pearson correlation coefficient and regression.

Results

Findings showed that psychological capital has a significant and negative relationship with plateauing (r = -0.38) and a significant and positive relationship with career adaptability (r = 0.65) and subjective underemployment has a significant and positive relationship with plateauing (r = 0.53) and a significant and negative relationship with career adaptability (r = -0.17) at an error level of p<0.05. Moreover, findings showed that psychological capital and subjective underemployment can predict career adaptability and career plateauing.

Conclusions

the results of this study showed that psychological capital and subjective underemployment are factors that can predict career plateauing (AR2 = 0.44) and career adaptability (AR2 = 0.42); therefore, it is required to pay attention to these variables in human resources management of hospitals.
