A Study on Zahabi's Opinion About Guardianship (Velayah) Verses

Author(s):
Abstract:
There has been published various books on the interpretation of Quran, among them "Al-Tafsir Al-Mofaseron", authored by Dr. Zahabi, is undoubtedly the most prominent one. In addition to interpretation and historical issues, Zahabi has challenged and criticized the other books published on interpretation too. But unfortunately he has taken an unfair approach toward judging the interpretations belonging to Ahlulbayt, and this can be either a result of his poor knowledge of Shiism or the will to challenge the most clear and undeniable historical facts. However, by implying this, we are not going to confirm the content validity of all Shiite interpretations of some verses of Quran, since there are cases of hinting the esoteric meaning, while overlooking the occasions of revelation and the apparent meaning of the verse. This heedless approach can leave an irreplaceable effect on Shiite belief. The present attempts to study Zahabi's views on three well-known verses of Purification (Tathir), Guardianship (Velayah) and Holders of Authority (Ololamr).
