Anshan/Anzan: A Search in History
Author(s):
Abstract:
Thanks to a varied geography, Iran has ever served as the birthplace of diverse cultures and civilizations whose particular birthland are uncertain.Until about a handred years age our Knowledge about Elam was largely confined to a name and a few epigraphs. This Knowledge increased with the excavations of Susa and other Elamite lands.However, Sumner’s excavatins in Tal-Melyan in Fars revolution-ized and brought under question much of the scientist’s information about Elam; in other words, some parts of the Elamite studies lost validity under the shadow of Sumner and his companies.Probably Anshan- refered to in the epigraphs of Sargon, Goden and Cyrus, and hither to thought of as being located in Bakhtiari and Khuzistan-Profiled most from Sumner’s excavations. Owing to the epigraphs excavated by Simner and interpreted by Reiner (1973), Melyan, a village near Bayza in Fars will play the first role in the history of Elam and will beome the heart of the ancient Anshan.This study attempts at confirming the above mentioned theory through its recourse to some recent references.
