Methods of controlling Fusarium head blight in wheat

Message:
Abstract:
Fusarium head blight (FHB) is an important disease of the wheat worldwide. In addition to the yield reduction, it causes several losses by contamination of the grains to mycotoxins and reducing the grain quality. Mycotoxins are fungal toxic compounds that contamination of the grains to them can be harmful for human and animals health. Cultural practices, chemical control and improving the host resistance are three ways were proposed to FHB control. Chemical practices lead to reduce yield losses resulted from FHB. Despite the effectiveness of cultural practices and chemical control, these two methods just cover a part of yield reduction and not effective to reduce fungal toxin aggregation. The host resistance to FHB in addition to effect on the yield related losses reduces the mycotoxin concentration and grain quality reduction. In this point of view, host resistance is the best way to FHB control.
