The Effects of Traffic on Mental Health

One of the important and covert effects of traffic in urban areas is what that remains on mental health. Transportation industry not only has negative physical effects such as poisoning with lead, but causes nervous- behavioral disorders, stimulations, anxiety, and even social isolation of individuals. Studies have shown that the most vulnerable population to traffic effects is children. This phenomenon can lead to brain functional disorders, developmental weaknesses, intelligence decrease, and educational problems in children. Ignoring the psychological effects of transportation has caused the harmful aspects of traffic on human health not being properly known. A comprehensive plan in traffic urban and correctional interventions based on cooperation of related official organizations may help to create a better condition.
