Study of feral rye (Secale cereale) effect on wheat (Triticum aestivum) grain yield and bread quality in mixed cropping

In order to study the effect of feral rye interference on wheat grain yield، yield component and bread quality a trial was designed in Karaj and Esfahan during 1999 and 2000 wheat growing period. The trial was conducted with nine treatments and four replications in RCBD layout. The treatments included mixed cropping of rye: wheat ratios as follows، 10:450، 20:450، 40:450، 80:450، 0:450، 0:460، 0:470، 0:490، 0:530 plants per m2. The results showed that with increasing wheat density the damage of rye reduced and this density suitable until 490 plants per m2. Increasing the proportion of rye in wheat flour because of increasing the rye plant density in wheat field، reduced the amount of wet and dry gluten، but had a little effect on protein of flour. Existence of 10 plant per m2 of rye in 450 plant per of wheat (suitable density) is a critical with no effect on wheat grain yield and bread quality.
