The Study of Climatic Potentials of East Azarbaijan and Ardebil provinces for the Cultivaion of Olive

This thesis aims at the concurrence and comparison of climatic stations in East Azarbaijan and Ardebil provinces with the bioclimatic requirements of olive tree and the quantitative and qualitative study of climatic elements in the area for the its cultivation. The study of climatic data has been carried out for a 19 year period (1987-2005) data and the missing data recovery has been accomplished using the differences and proportions method. In this research we have studied the climatic requirements as well as olive specifications، followed by the evaluation of the climatic conditions of the area. Results of the analysis of the climatic elements and their accordance and comparison with the climatic requirements of olive indicated that this plant is very sensitive to the temperature reduction and the temperature can be regarded as a limiting factor for its cultivation in both provinces. However the increased humidity in Astara station as the closest station to the study area can be regarded as one of the limiting factors for the cultivation of the olive. Among the stations under study، only Pars Abad had the required conditions for the cultivation of the olive. Results of the evapotranspiration analysis for the Pars Abad station also demonstrated that the amount of evapotranspiration is higher in summer. As a result، if we cultivate olive in this region، there will a need for irrigation in the area and there is and there is no possibility of olive cultivation in this area without irrigation or in a dry farming manner.
