In this study, multiple objectives on earthquake damage assessment procedures have been investigated. The Unified performance-based design (UPBD) method was primarily used to design the Reinforced Concrete (RC) frame shear wall building. The nonlinear dynamic analysis is performed considering spectrum compatible ground motions (SCGM) as per EC-8 demand spectrum at 0.45g level and type B soil condition. It estimated the Damage index (DI) of the building by using Park and Ang method. This method is highly time-consuming as the storey height increases. Hence, it is not suitable for large scale investigation. Therefore, a new approach has been suggested to reduce the computational time and efforts in the case of complex structures to evaluate the global damage index (GDI). In this present study, the most three influencing parameters of the building has been considered to find the global damage index (GDI). And it has also been observed that the most damage occurs on the ground storey of the building compared to the remaining floors. The suggested method efficiently calculates a reliable GDI that can assess building damage from small to large scale.

As a natural stone aggregate, resources are reducing at a high rate due to the large concrete use. For the search of substitute material for natural aggregates, in recent years coconut shells are used in the concrete field. Reinforced cement concrete (RCC) portal frames are a very common structural element and used for resisting lateral loads. In this research single bay, RCC portal frames made with coconut shell concrete (CSC) are tested under lateral load and cyclic push-pull load. The results are compared with frames made with conventional concrete (CC). Four prototype bare frames cast in that two frames made with CSC and two with CC. Behavior and characteristics like load capacity, deflection, crack formation, concrete strain, stiffness, and ductility are studied. It was found that under cyclic push-pull load CSC frames are comparable with CC frames rather than under lateral load. The amount of deflection and strains are observed in the CSC frame is comparatively more than in CC frames. Stiffness and ductility also observed more in CSC frames than CC frames.

The tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) having a uniform cross-sectional tube of U-shaped, occupied with liquid is used as a vibrational response mitigation device. The tuned liquid column ball damper (TLCBD) is a modified TLCD, where, an immovable orifice, positioned at the middle part of the horizontal portion, is replaced by a metal ball. Different studies on the unconstrained optimization performance of TLCBD subjected to the stochastic earthquake have been performed where limitations on the maximum amplitude of liquid present in the vertical portion of the tube were not imposed. In the case of the high magnitude of earthquake and space constraint, the excessive liquid movement might get generated in the vertical portion of the tube which can create challenging circumstances. This can be taken care of by restricting the liquid movement up to a certain limit. The present investigation considers the optimum performance of the structure with TLCBD for mitigating the vibrational response with limited liquid movement in the vertical portion of the tube. A numerical study has been carried out to demonstrate the difference between constrained and unconstrained optimization of structure-TLCBD system. Numerical results show the influence of constraining cases on optimum parameters and performance behavior of the structure-TLCBD system.
