    Background

    The Linear Quadratic (LQ) equation as the most common formula in radiotherapy has a debatable accuracy in modeling high-dose effects. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate bystander response of the Grid treatment in SCC cell line, based on both theoretical calculations and experimental investigations.

    Materials and methods

    The linear quadratic model was used to calculate the equivalent uniform dose (EUD) of a Grid-field with the 10 Gy maximum doses. According to the EUD definition, the identical tumor survival fraction (SF) was expected to obtain from both Grid and open-field single fraction. After observing the difference, the clonogenic and apoptosis assays were exerted to investigate bystander response via medium transfer strategy which was performed from 10Gy-irradiated donors to 1.5Gy-irradiated recipients.

    Results

    The EUD was equal to 4 Gy and the SF of 4 Gy EUD and 10 Gy Grid-field were 0.1 ± 0.02 and 0.051 ± 0.008, respectively. These findings contradicted the theoretical expectations of their survivals equality. Moreover, the bystander clonogenic cells death enhanced approximately by 2.91 times (statistically significant); highlighting the bystander response role. The apoptotic findings illustrated that the bystander cells experienced an approximately 10% increase and the apoptotic rate confirmed the clonogenic survival result which was less in the EUD than the Grid-field.

    Conclusion

    Since the SF of the Grid-field was less than the EUD, it revealed the Grid therapeutic advantages plus bystander response manifestation; that was ignored in the LQ equation and may not be demonstrated by sheer theoretical calculations of the modulated-field.

    Introduction
    The current study investigated the combination of high Z atoms (iodine-, platinium-based drugs) with using low energy irradiation (120kvp) in Anaplastic Thyroid cancer cells.
    Materials and Methods
    For this purpose, eight groups were designed: control (CNT), different concentrations of Iodine contrast media (ICM),  irradiation with various doses, Cis-platin (CDDP) with different concentrations, (ICM + CDDP), (ICM + RAD), (CDDP + RAD) and (ICM + CDDP + RAD). The viability was measured by MTT and Colony assay. In MTT assay, the viability of 8305c cells RAD (2 Gy)+ICM (10mg/mL) group was significantly lower than those treated with RAD or ICM alone. CDDP +ICM+RAD group significantly decreased the viability. In colony assay, cells in ICM + RAD (2 Gy) group reduced the number of colonies more significant than RAD group. The difference of colony forming ability between CDDP and CDDP + RAD (2 Gy) was significant. The difference of ICM + CDDP + RAD (2 Gy) and CDDP +RAD (2Gy) group was significant. All data were statistically analysed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Chafe’s multi-comparisons tests. All data were presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD) and analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS 16). Significance was considered to be p<0.05.
    Results

    Exposure of ATC to ICM in the presence of CDDP increases tissue X-rays absorbance by Auger electrons and photo electrons leading to more fatal effects against the tumour

    Smartphones are equipped with sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscope and GPS inone cost-effective device with an acceptable level of accuracy. There have been some research studiescarried out in terms of using smartphones to measure the pavement roughness. However, a little attentionhas been paid to investigate the validity of the measured pavement roughness by smartphones via othersubjective methods such as the user opinion. This paper aims at calculating the pavement roughnessdata with a smartphone using its embedded sensors and investigating its correlation with a user opinionabout the ride quality. In addition, the applicability of using smartphones to assess the pavement surfacedistresses is examined. Furthermore, to validate the smartphone sensor outputs objectively, the RoadSurface Profiler is applied. Finally, a good roughness model is developed which demonstrates anacceptable level of correlation between the pavement roughness measured by smartphones and the ridequality rated by users.

    تنوع مورفولوژیک با لا در جنس گل ماهور مشکل عمده ای در تعیین حدود گونه ها است. بنابراین در ارائه یک طبقه بندی سازمان یافته و طبیعی در جنس گل ماهور مشکل وجود دارد. تحقیق حاضرساختار تشریحی برگ، پوسته دانه، میوه و ریزساختاری دانه گونه های گل ماهور در ایران را مورد بررسی قرار میدهد. شکل و تراکم ایدیو بلاستهای اپیکارپ میتواند به عنوان صفات متمایز کننده گونهای به شمار رود. دو نوع مزوفیل نردبانی-اسفنجی و نردبانی و دو نوع نسبت قطر اندوکارپ به اپی کارپ (2/1 و3/2) در بین گونه ها مشاهده شد. تزئینات پوسته نیز در همه گونه ها مشبک است، لیکن تفاوت جزئی در شکل سلولها و وجود حباب در دیواره های جانبی سلولهای اپیدرمی دانه ها دیده میشود

    The high morphological diversity among the species of the genus Verbascum causes problems in the delimitation of the species. Therefore, there is a difficulty in offering a natural and well organized classification for the species of the genus. This research was based on the leaf, seed coat and fruit anatomy, and seed micromorphology of the species growing in Iran. The shape and density rate of epicarpic idioblasts can be a determining character for Verbascum species. Two types of mesophyll were found within the species: Dorsiventral and Isobilateral. Also two types of thickness ratio of endocarp to pericarp (2/3, 1/2) were distinguished. However, a slight difference has been observed in the shape of epidermal cells of seeds and the presence of vesicle on the lateral walls of the epidermal cells of seeds.
