Introduction to ISOLA Algorithm for Local-Regional Moment Tensor Solution (Example: March 31, 2006 Silakhur Earthquake, Mw 6)

Abstract:
In this paper ISOLA algorithm for inversion of the single and multiple sources and its theoretical aspects is presented and applied for March 31, 2006 Silakhur earthquake. This algorithm is based on multiple point-source representation and iterative deconvolution method and the full wavefield is considered. Green's functions are calculated by discrete wavenumber method. Deviatoric moment tensor for 2006 Silakhur earthquake was inverted by using broadband data recorded by Iranian National Seismic Network, INSN. Deviatoric moment tensor inversion for this earthquake by waveform modeling shows strike-slip mechanism with a small normal component in northwest-southeast direction along Main Recent Fault and 11 km centroid depth. Estimated seismic moment for this earthquake is 1.086 e18 Newton meter results in 6.0 moment magnitude. Comparing calculated moment tensor for this earthquake with different methods implies the capability of the ISOLA algorithm for simple and rapid estimation of the moment tensor using INSN broadband data for moderate and large Iranian earthquakes.
