A Study on the Rate of Using the More Covering Veil among University Students and its Effect on their Happiness

In view of assuming Hijab (Islamic veil) as one of the important and basic religious precepts for women in Islam and its role in intellectual, political and social independence of the society, the present research was conducted to study the rate of using the best veil among the university students and its effect on happiness. The research sample was composed of 218 subjects (53 students from Payam-e Nur University in Ardabil, 60 students from Islamic Azad University in Ardabil, and 105 students from Muhaqeq Ardabili University). The subjects were selected using cluster random sampling among the whole body of female students in those three universities. The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, the questionnaire of attitude towards the best veil, and the observation devices for data-gathering were used to conduct a survey using cross-sectional and causal-comparative methods. The results showed that 21.1% of students use the best veil, 67% use partial veil, and 11.9% are poorly-veiled. The study showed that paying more attention to true Islamic culture, investment in cultural activities, and granting real identity to the character of the Muslim woman are necessary for recognizing and accepting Islamic values and transferring them properly to the future generation.
