The Familial Social Asset, Satisfaction in Marital Life, and Mental Health in A Sample of Women Watching Satellite Channels

Aiming at investigating the familial social asset, satisfaction in marital life, and mental health in a sample of women watching satellite channels, 89 women (54 young, 35 old) were studied. The results were analyzed using one-sample and two-sample Student’s t-test, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. The results showed that the subjects were enjoying weaker social asset, less marital satisfaction, and lower level of mental health. The young and old subjects had no meaningful difference regarding the three variables of social asset, marital satisfaction, and mental health. There was a statistically meaningful correlation between these three variables in the subjects. The variable ‘marital satisfaction’ was more effective than the variable ‘familial social asset’ in influencing the subjects’ mental health. Considering the fact that colonialist states try, as an excuse for globalization, to use cultural devices such as satellite channels to generate the cultural changes they wish, the present article suggests that more attention must be paid especially to the vulnerable groups such as youths and women by providing a variety of cultural programs to fill the cultural gaps as a way to preclude hidden harms to them.
