Stress and Strain of Flexible Pavements

Abstract:
All methods of designing flexible pavements are aimed at designing resistant pavements against damage and destruction. One of the main effective factors is considered as loading arrangement. Stresses resulting from loading arrangement required to be reduced to the extent that would be endurable for bed ground, and do not cause structural damages in pavement. In order to achieve this goal, it’s required to use all influential ideas and identify impressive parameters and evaluate them meticulously. In this research, an actual road model was made in 3-D by using limited software system, so called Abaqus. Then, some important and impressive factors on road’s destruction, namely the change of loading arrangement, examined in this model. Through analyzing effects of the change of loading arrangement revealed that if wheels arrangements in trailers passing in Iran carrying two axels and a pair of tires accompanied by ten-wheel tracker change to 3-axel trailer with single tire accompanied by 6-wheel tracker, roads destruction will be reduced significantly.
