The Effectiveness of Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) in Improving Marital Satisfaction and Family Behavior Control

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFTC) in improving marital satisfaction and Family Behavior Control. This research was a experimental study comprising sixty people (30 couples, N=60) who were selected through of convenient sampling. The subjects were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 couples each). All participants completed the Enrich Questionnaire and the Family Assessment Device (FAD). The therapeutic program was carried out in 8 two hour successive weekly sessions for the experimental group. The results of the covariance showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in control of family behavior and marital satisfaction. It can be concluded that training in emotion management strategies had helped the couples to improve their communication patterns and marital satisfaction as well as control of family behavior. Hence, emotion management plays a main role in improving satisfaction of couples and control of family behavior.
