Assessment of Damper Layers to Reduce Rail Induced Viberations

One of the problems of the rail system is the vibrations induced train movements which affects on neighboring structures. The importance of the rail vibration studies is increasingly obvious, regarding to the extension of rail system and increase in trains’ speed. This paper reviews the usage of damping layers under the rails or structures’ foundations which can reduce the vibrations. The explanations of the infinite model of rail syatem and its neighboring structures with/ without using damping layers are provided. Finally, it is recommended to use damping layers, if the model shows the possible damage to the neighboring structures.
