Analysis and Assessment of Sustainable Transport in Shiraz

After several decades of sustainable transport planning process in developed countries, the importance of this concept of urban development, approach and framework is still lacking in Iran. The sustainable transport planning is the model that have been proposed to following the inefficiency of former transport mechanisms, the international community, and particularly in developing countries, in order to achieve the goals of sustainable city. This study sought to identify the meaning and characteristics of sustainable transport and check the status of sustainable transport in Shiraz and guidelines for achieving the goals of sustainable transport relying on documentary and field studies. This study is a descriptive - analytical methods relying on documents – Library and the study is practical. The results of the evaluation criteria and indicators of the population of this research, show the unfavorable situation on the principles of sustainable transport in Shiraz. The main priority for the statistical community to meet the needs of the everyday use of private vehicles. Hence, on the basis of theoretical research, to achieve sustainable transportation, urban management have to use indicators for sustainable transport and localization of the characteristics to the city.
