Message:
Abstract:
Today, using surveillance cameras is one of the most effective methods of data collection in developed communities. Through these equipments, authorities have visual access to all of the routes and they can process them to take the required decisions in order to guide the traffic, improve safety, decrease accidents, etc. In this paper, the evaluation and selection of the best locations for installation of these equipments is studied through using GIS and spatial analysis of Tehran- Bazargan route which is one of the most important transit routes of the country, based on the guideline for application of visual surveiiance systems on roads in accordance with other ITS components. The criteria for this study are the rate of accidents, ratio of traffic to capacity, being the main corridor, existence of access, junction and tollgate, the rate of violations per unit length, percentage of heavy vehicles. These criteria are scored and evaluated, then the required level of monitoring for the different sections of the route is determined.
