Labor Income by Gender: Social Accounting Matrix Analysis for Iran

Abstract:
Due to the different nature of the production structure in economic sectors, growth in these sectors has a different effect on employment. On the other hand, according to market analysis by gender, the impact on job creation in economic sectors is also different for men and women. In this paper, we use Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) model for Iran to assess how growth in various sectors of the economy, could affect the incomes of women and men both directly and indirectly through multiplier analysis. For this purpose, the latest 2006 social accounting matrix is used, in which one item of factor production is observed. So, the first aim of this paper is to decompose labor in two groups. In the second phase, according to the derived social accounting matrix, the effect of enlarging on the total labor income and men and women labor are assessed. The results show, output growth has different impacts on male and female incomes, however, the labor income shares of men is much higher than women's labor income.
