Effect of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) on dyeing properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate)/poly(trimethylene terephthalate) blend fibers: Response Surface Methodology

In this study, the dyeing and fastness properties of polyblend of PET/poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) (PET/PTT) fibers produced by the melt spinning method was reported. C.I. Disperse Red 73 (DR 73) was used to dye the prepared fibers. Operational parameters of the dyeing process, such as the PTT percent, concentration of the dye, time and temperature of dyeing were optimized by RSM techniques. The results of the dyeing samples clearly showed that with increasing PTT percent, PET dyeing ability dramatically increase even at the boiling temperature. In addition, the dyeing rate increased significantly with increasing PTT percent at a fixed temperature. The results of this study clearly show that the PTT can improve the rate of dyeing and dyeing ability of PET fibers even at the boiling temperature. Also, the results indicated that addition of PTT had no negative impact on color fastness properties of dyed fibers.
