Levinas's Critique of Husserl and Heidegger

Author(s):
Abstract:
This article tries to explain some important Levina's critiques of thought of Husserl and Heidegger in his ethics- based phenomenology. Levinas begins his moral philosophy from transcendental phenomenology of Husserl and he critiques the key concept of Husserl upon his moral perspective. For example, the concept of "intentionality" has been tied with represntionalism and it represents the "Other" as an object besides all things while the other is not an object. Moreover, Levinas accuses philosophy of Husserl as solipsism that in it other has been reduced into ego.
In addition, Levinas also critiques Heidegger. Levinas acknowledges impression of Heidegger on his philosophy but he belives that philosophy of Heidegger is captive of traditional ontology which relation between Dasein and Being is located in the center of Being and Time. Also, it can be said that relation with other is a snag in developing way of Dasein. Also Levinas critiques problem of death in Heidegger.
