The effectiveness of Psychodrama on Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Social Isolation, lack of Empathy, and Anorexia Nervosa

Narcissistic personality disorders are penetrating pattern of selfishness, the need for admiration and fragile self-esteem and impaired social relation associated with many communication problems. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of psychodrama on narcissistic personality disorder and its comorbidities (social isolation, lack of empathy, and anorexia nervosa). This was a semi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group. Statistical Population was all of girl’s graduate students in Qazvin Universities. At the beginning questionnaires administered on 150 students that selected by cluster sampling method, then 18 patients who had met criteria of narcissistic personality disorder selected based on purposeful sampling method and equally assigned in groups randomly, during the sessions we lost one patient in the experimental group and two patients in the control group. For the test group, sessions were held in 10, 60-minute sessions with in 5 consecutive weeks and control group was in waiting list for treatment. The instruments were Narcissistic Personality Inventory, Empathy Questionnaire, and Loneliness Scale for measuring social isolation, and Eating Attitude Test. Date were Analyzed by the use of covariance analysis. Results showed that psychodrama was effective on reduction of the narcissistic personality disorder’s symptoms, social isolation, anorexia nervosa and lack of empathy. The findings indicated that psychodrama is an effective treatment in the context of narcissistic personality disorder and comorbidities’.
