Historiography of Iran-Iraq War; From the Viewpoint of Western Historians and Analysts

Abstract:
Along with the Iranian narrative of the Iran-Iraq War, the necessity of addressing Western views and narratives of this war is indisputable. Historiography and analysis of the Iran-Iraq war has so far attracted the attention of military analysts and Western strategists in the West from the short time after the start of the battle and has continued with yielding significant results (more than sixty books and hundreds of articles and lectures). However, getting acquainted with the works and critiques and analyzing the views of these scholars have not been taken into consideration by Iranians, including scholars, students, managers and policymakers in the field of foreign policy. The subject of this article is getting familiarity with the generalizations of the eight-year war historiography and its overall framework, including the importance, goals, dimensions, shortcomings, steps, approaches and major thematic issues of the authors of books Published in English in the West, through using descriptive-analytical method and with immediate benefit from the sources mentioned.
