Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of rumination on sleep quality: The mediating role of Internet addiction and sleep deprivation in Iranian bodybuilding athletes. The research method is descriptive . The statistical population of the study included bodybuilding athletes in Iran. Due to the infinity of the statistical population, the number of samples according to Morgan's table was 384 people and the sampling method was used as a multi-stage cluster. The research instruments included the Nalen Hoksma and Murrow (1991) rumination questionnaire, the Tuckman (2002) procrastination questionnaire, the Kimberly & Young (1998) Internet addiction questionnaire, and the Petersburg (1998) sleep quality questionnaire. To ensure the reliability of the questionnaires, 30 copies were distributed in a pilot study on a randomly selected sample and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for rumination (α = 0.80), procrastination (α = 0.81), addiction to Internet (α = 0.79) and for sleep quality (α = 0.82) were obtained. The results showed that Internet addiction has a mediating role in the relationship between rumination and sleep quality in Iranian bodybuilding athletes. But the sleep procrastination variable does not play a mediating role. Also, the structural model of the research showed a favorable fit according to the value of GOF = 0.48 index. Therefore, it is recommended that bodybuilding athletes to improve the quality of sleep to minimize the role of virtual tools in their leisure time and use activities that reduce their rumination.
