Abstract:

The Iranian constitution had numerous historical, political, social and economic grounds and was able to gather significant segments of the people under the demand of constitutionalism. However, the realization of such an important event was not possible and feasible without paying attention to the events and developments in other countries. One of these countries was Japan, which Iranians paid special attention to for some reason. In addition to the fact that Japan was an Asian country and began its modernization concerns almost simultaneously with the developments in Iran, another issue that added to the importance of the Japanese case for Iranians was the historical defeat of Russia by Japan, which specifically added to the inspiration from Japan combined with a sense of admiration and regret among Iranians, especially since Iran had seen Russia's power firsthand during long battles in its contemporary history and considered Russia invincible due to the failures that occurred. One of the most important effects of Japan's victory over Russia was the Iranians' emphasis and acknowledgement that the reason for the success of this fledgling country in international equations was due to the constitutional structure and the implementation of reforms in the country. One of the notable reports of Iranians at this time was organized in the form of the Mikado-nameh poem, which provided an Iranian narrative of the events of Japan's struggle against Russia.
