Polyurethane Coatings: A Comprehensive Review of Characteristics, Applications, and Development Trends (Part 1)
Polyurethane coatings are widely used in various industries due to their unique characteristics such as high strength, excellent adhesion, good chemical and thermal resistance, flexibility, and long durability. This review article, presented in two parts, provides a comprehensive examination of polyurethane coatings. In the first part, different types of polyurethane coatings, including one-component and two-component systems, are introduced. Then, the diverse properties and characteristics of these coatings, such as solvent-borne, water-borne, UV-curable, high-solids, and powder polyurethanes, are discussed. Additionally, bio-based polyurethane coatings as the new generation of these materials are studied. Furthermore, the widespread applications of polyurethane coatings, especially their role in corrosion protection, are described. Subsequently, water-borne and isocyanate-free polyurethanes are introduced as the latest trends in the development of these coatings. The final section presents the future outlook of polyurethane coatings and a general summary. This comprehensive review article provides valuable information about polyurethane coatings, including their types, properties, applications, and development trends, and can serve as a reference source for researchers and professionals in this field.
