Abstract:
Background

In today's age, human health as one of the most important aspects of life includes physical, mental and social dimensions. Numerous studies show the mutual relationship between physical and mental health and reveal that many diseases have their roots in non-observance of moral and spiritual principles. Quranic teachings and the works of moral philosophers emphasize the importance of moral virtues in achieving health.

Purpose

This research aims to investigate the role of the virtue of self-control as one of the moral foundations in preventing the occurrence of mental disorders through Quranic teachings.

Method

Using the descriptive and analytical method, articles and texts related to the subject have been reviewed to analyze the effect of a lifestyle based on self-restraint and avoiding harmful pleasures on mental health.

Findings

The results of this research show that lack of self-control and submission to momentary pleasures can lead to mental disorders. On the other hand, the virtue of self-restraint can increase human mental health by strengthening the will and self-control.

Research results

The virtue of self-control, with an emphasis on controlling sensual desires and desires, helps not only to improve the mental state but also to strengthen healthier behaviors and habits in daily life. This research states that by strengthening Quranic moral teachings and promoting moral virtues such as self-restraint, it is possible to achieve stable mental health.
