The song of water, design of human being; The role of water in urban landscape designing

As an essential natural element in all landscapes, including urban landscapes, water has greatly affected the formation and effectiveness of urban environments through out history. Water through diverse effects, has triggered human excitement towards aesthetic needs. The essential value of water is not limited to its aesthetic value; it is rather related to our deep innate instincts. Such motivation has derived human being towards understanding the physical and mental features of water. This understanding, in turn, has given rise to human designs such as pools, fountains, waterspouts etc. Owning to the recent urban sprawl and its resulting pollution, the impact of natural elements, such as water, in the urban environment causes closeness to the nature and decrease in psychological tensions. Accordingly, this article attempts to investigate possiblity of water features in the urban context and its effect on human being. It is based on theoretical studies and observation of real cases.The firs step of this study involves scrutinizing the natural waterbeds and the natural phenomena such as riverbanks sea coasts. In this way, diverse water features will beunderstood, in order to better figure out these variations, the factors influencingthe creation of the features like the form, color and texture of container should be taken into consideration. The second step is to investigate these features in the built- environment.Finally, different methods to use water will be categorized based on the impact on human beings, leading to recommendation for effective use of water in landscape design.
