Effects of Geogrid Application in Asphalt Layer using the Finite Difference Numerical Analysis Method

Control of tensile stress beneath the asphalt layer, stress and deflection of pavement in flexible pavements is very important. Structural cracks in asphalt layers are due to the tensile stresses in coated routes. Control of cracks in order to avoid their increase and transfer to the upper layers is necessary. Deceleration of reflection cracks growth can be made by using Geosynthetic products such as Geogrids and Geotextiles. Achieving appropriate performance of Geogrid layers in controlling of reflection cracks depends on proper installation of layers. In this paper, the effect of Geogrids in asphalt layers in order to control stress and avoid crack development is studied by determination of installation place and its performance in stress decrease. It is also presents an optimum thickness design for the layer. This study was made by finite difference numerical analysis method, flac2d software and mohr-coulomb theory.
