The term lacrimation means "the secretion of tears especially when abnormal or excessive”. Tears are an important protection and lubricant for the eye. They can flush out irritants and keep the eye wet to enhance vision. The eye's lacrimal system evolved to keep the eye surface moist Possible causes of lacrimation in pets include, but are not limited to: allergy, physical or chemical irritant (misplaced eyelashes, eyelid growth, chemical spill), wound or direct injury (clawed in face), corneal ulcer, blocked tear ducts, some systemic diseases (such as pseudorabies), or toxin ingestion. Many people have been known to cry when extremely happy or when they are laughing. In humans, emotional tears can be accompanied by reddening of the face and sobbing — cough-like, convulsive breathing, sometimes involving spasms of the whole upper body.Tears brought about by emotions have a different chemical make up than those for lubrication. In aquatic animals, the eye is constantly bathed in water, but land animals are surrounded by air, so their eyes needed a built-in wateringsystem. While most vertebrates are physically capable of producing tears, many scientists say that humans are the only animals that cry emotional tears.Different sources suggest that chimpanzees, elephants, dogs, and bears can shed tears. But we couldnt find any scientific studies of animal's emotional tears. In conclusion it seems that Animals do not tear up or cry for emotional reasons as humans do.
