Islamic Revolution and Civilizational Identity Search in Turkey

Message:
Abstract:
In clash between tradition and modernism Turkey is among the countries that accepted modernity with all its necessities for several reasons. Laism and secularism are its two most prominent characteristics. However we are witnessing the fall of secularism and rise of laism in this country which is a result of several different internal and external variables. This article is based on this hypothesis that Islamic revolution of Iran by reviving political Islam in Iran which is the most outstanding component of reviving civilizational identity has led to the revival of political Islam in Muslim countries. By changing the Turk's identity source from west to Islam, Islamic revolution has managed to create a new spirit in Turkish society which led to a tendency toward Islam. The collective effect of this transformation has been the entering of Islamists into the political arena.
