T h e s e a c c e l e r o g r a m s s h o u l d b e c o n s t r u c t e d i n s u c h a m a n n e r t h a t i n c l u d e s t h e s e i s m i c c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s o f t h e r e g i o n i n w h i c h a s t r u c t u r a l d e s i g n i s p e r f o r m e d. B e c a u s e o f t h e r a n d o m n a t u r e o f e a r t h q u a k e s, o n e s h o u l d g e n e r a t e m a n y r e c o r d s, o n w h i c h a n a c c e p t a b l e a n a l y s i s c a n b e b a s e d. T h e b e s t a c c e l e r o g r a m i s o n e t h a t h a s c o m p a t i b l e c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s w i t h t h e d e s i r e d a r e a. T h e r e f o r e, i t i s d i f f i c u l t o r m a y b e i m p o s s i b l e, i n s o m e c a s e s, t o c h o o s e a p r o p e r r e c o r d f o r a d e s i g n a r e a, b e c a u s e t h e r e c o r d e d a n d p r o c e s s e d a c c e l e r o g r a m s o f t h e d e s i g n l o c a t i o n a r e f e w. B e s i d e s, o t h e r l o c a t i o n r e c o r d s d o n o t s a t i s f y t h e g e o-s e i s m i c c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s o f t h e d e s i r e d l o c a t i o n. W a v e l e t s a r e c a p a b l e o f d e c o m p o s i n g a t i m e s e r i e s t o d i f f e r e n t l e v e l s, s u c h t h a t e a c h l e v e l c o v e r s a d e f i n i t e f r e q u e n c y d o m a i n.
