The Historical Refutations against the Shiism: A Review of Menhj as-Sunna an-Nabawiyya
Author(s):
Abstract:
In view of the fact that many of Wahhabite thoughts originate from Ibn Taymiya’s views (728 AH), it seems that a scholarly and unbiased review of his views can prepare the ground for religious understanding and removal of unsound notions in the Muslim nation. Ibn Taymiya’s Menhj as-Sunna an-Nabawiyya fir-Radd ‘Al Sh'’a wal-Qadariyya can be considered an all out mirror of refutations against Shiism. In the present article, nine different reports, from among two hundred historical reports in that book, have been reviewed – both internally and externally – using the common methods of historical review. The main axes of reviews are as follows: the structure of historical discussions of Menhj as-Sunna, evaluation of documents and references of the selected reports, evaluation of transmitters quoted in the selected reports, and evaluation of the method of Ibn Taymiya’s review in the selected reports. Based on the findings of this article, we may consider Ibn Taymiya’s historical view invalid.
